Organ Research

Situated at the Institute for Church Music and Organ, the centre for organ research (ZfO) strikes a new path in playing and listening to the instrument. A focal point is the development of organs with electronic and hybrid sound production in terms of their technical and sound-aesthetic possibilities. Aiming at the enhancement of the organ and its repertoire, ZfO spurs a dialogue between composition, interpretation and instrument making.

Areas of research comprise:

  • multichannel sound projection via loudspeakers
  • recording methods for digital organs
  • enhancement of the console: ergonomics and interface
  • hybrid organs: simultaneousness of pipes and electronic sound
  • tuning systems and dynamic intonation
